Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Caffeinated Math, a subsidiary of HJJB, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), handles information when you use U.S. Citizenship Test Prep (“the App”).

1. Summary

The App has no accounts. Your study progress stays on your device, and we never receive it. The free version shows ads from Google, and Google’s ad software collects some device data, as described in section 5.

2. Data Collection

The App does not use accounts. Your study progress, including test history, bookmarks, study streaks and settings, is stored only on your device, and the App does not upload it. Pro statistics such as weak areas and missed questions are calculated from this same data on your device.

3. Speech Recognition

The App uses the microphone and speech recognition only during speech practice, such as Interview Mode and Speech Match, and asks for your permission first. When iOS supports on-device recognition for your device and language, your speech is recognized on your device. Otherwise iOS sends the audio to Apple for processing under Apple’s Privacy Policy. The App does not store or upload recordings.

You can turn off microphone or speech recognition access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security.

4. Location

The App never asks for access to your device’s location. You can choose your state and enter a zip code during setup or in Settings. The App uses them for civics questions that depend on where you live, such as who your governor is. Both are stored on your device.

The App also saves your state and zip code to a shared container on your device that only this App and its own home screen widget can read. The widget uses them for questions that depend on where you live. The container also records whether you own Pro, so the widget knows when to show the answer. The App never sends your state or zip code off your device.

Google’s ad software may estimate an approximate location from your IP address. See section 5.

5. Advertising

The free version of the App shows ads using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. According to Google, the SDK may collect data such as device identifiers, approximate location based on your IP address, ad interaction data and diagnostic data. Google uses this data to deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud. See Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

The App does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, so Google does not get your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA). The ad SDK does not start if you own Pro or Remove Ads.

6. In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple. The App receives only whether a purchase is active, never your payment details.

7. Analytics

The App contains no analytics or tracking SDK of its own. The ad SDK described in section 5 may still collect diagnostic data. If you opted in on your device to share analytics with app developers, Apple may share aggregated App Analytics with us.

8. Data Storage

Your study data is stored locally on your device. This data:

  • Remains on your device
  • Stays in place when you update the App
  • Is protected by iOS security
  • May be included in iCloud or computer backups if you use them

9. Deleting Your Data

We keep no copy of your data on our servers. Deleting the App removes the data it stored on your device. This includes your study history, bookmarks, settings, and the state and zip code shared with the widget. Copies in an iCloud or computer backup remain until that backup is deleted.

Data collected by Google’s ad software, and audio that Apple processed for speech recognition, are covered by Google’s and Apple’s privacy policies. Deleting the App does not remove them.

10. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
